Frequently Asked Questions
That's completely fine, and more common than you might think. Most people feel some nerves before their first session. We'd start with a free 20-minute introductory call: a chance to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide whether it feels right. In sessions themselves, there's no particular format to follow and nothing you need to prepare. We just start talking, and go from there.
It varies a lot, and it's hard to say in advance. Some people find a few months is enough; others find the work takes longer, or that they want to keep going. We'd check in about how things are feeling as we go, and you're always free to stop whenever you feel ready. There's no minimum commitment.
Therapy tends to focus on understanding the deeper patterns and experiences that shape how you think and feel. Coaching is more forward-looking: helping you get clarity, make decisions, and take action. In practice, the two can sit alongside each other, and as a qualified coach as well as a therapist, I'm able to draw on both. There's more detail on this on my therapy and coaching page.
Yes. I offer online sessions via Zoom, as well as in-person sessions across London (Islington, Angel, Soho and Bunhill) and in Guildford, Surrey.
Yes. What you share stays between us. There are very limited exceptions to this, all related to safety, and I'll explain these clearly before we start working together so there are no surprises.
That's completely normal, and not a problem at all. You don't need to arrive with anything prepared or know exactly what's wrong. Most people don't. We just start talking, and something usually emerges pretty quickly. If it doesn't, that's fine too: I'll ask questions and we'll find our way in together.
If something doesn't feel quite right, whether you can name it or not, that's usually enough of a reason to have a conversation. You don't need to be in crisis, and you don't need to have it all figured out before getting in touch. The free introductory call is exactly for this: a no-pressure chance to see how it feels.
I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged in full, though I'll always try to be reasonable about genuine emergencies.
