I was the sole designer leading the Mortgage Mentor responsive website design. The client had their own team of developers, and researchers.

Responsibilities:

  • Paper and digital wireframes.
  • High-fidelity mock-ups.
  • Accounting for accessibility.
  • Iterating on designs.
  • Converting and adapting the website for various screen sizes.
  • Design hand-over and collaborating with the teams’ developers.

Mortgage Mentor is a mortgage company based in the UK, offering an AI mortgage assistant through their dedicated mobile app.

The client needed a way to raise brand awareness and increase their primary services’ discoverability.

To begin, I collected any information I needed from the client to understand their target user.

Business – Background, Goals and the products or services they offer

Below you can see some examples of the type of questions I asked the client about their business:

  •  When was the business established?
  • What location(s) do you operate in?
  • What are the main products or services you offer?
  • Who are your main competitors?
  • What are you best known for?
  • What is your company vision and mission?
  • How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?

Target Audience & Customer Personnas

I requested information about the businesses target audience, which included things like:

  • Age range, location, family situation, occupation, hobbies, and interests.
  • Goals & frustrations, problem statements.
  • Main user objectives when using the business service or product.

The solution for Mortgage Mentor was to offer free mortgage advice to people via a new website. The website would provide useful information and a great user experience to its visitors, benefiting both the business and its users.

My predictions were that providing useful content to people would have a positive impact on the business in the long-term. Boosting search engine rankings (SEO), website and brand authority, brand awareness and increasing trust between the user and business.

User Journey Maps & User Flows

After the initial client briefing, I created journey maps and user flows to help guide me through the initial design stages.

Competitor Audit

Conducting an audit on competitor websites revealed a few potential opportunities or ‘gaps in the market’ that I could use to excel the new website beyond the competition.

After creating paper and digital wireframes, low-fidelity prototypes were created and used in usability studies. Insights from the studies guided me to make improvements on the design, before converting them into high-fidelity mockups. Some of the final designs can be seen in the images below.

The final designs and design tokens were checked over before being finalised and passed on to the developers ready for the final build of the website.
